The Legislature is based into two houses (bicameral legislature): the House of Representatives (H.R.) and the Senate. The House of Representatives is based on population. The Senate is based on equal representation no matter what the population of the state has. In the House, there are 435 members, and you must be at least 25 years old, must be a citizen for at least seven years, and their term only lasts two years. In the Senate, there are 50 members, must be at least 30 years old, must be a citizen for nine years, and their term only lasts six years.
2. IDENTIFY AND PROVIDE AN EXAMPLE OF THE POWERS OF THE LEGISLATURE, BOTH FORMAL AND INFORMAL.
Formal powers of the legislative branch can be found in the first article of the constitution. One formal power is impeachment. This formal power was used against Bill Clinton in 1994. Informal powers of the legislative branch can in the setting of minimum wage.
3. IDENTIFY AND EXPLAIN HOW CONGRESS SHARES POWERS WITH THE EXECUTIVE, JUDICIARY, AND BUREAUCRACY.
The executive branch enforces/ executes the laws. The judiciary branch interprets or clarify the laws. Bureaucracy is in charge of putting government policy into practice. Congress shares powers with the executive, judiciary and bureaucracy through the checks and balances of each other. For example congress is the money behind the executive branch, they fund the executive branch so they can execute whatever needs to be taken care of.
4. DISCUSS THE IMPLICATIONS OF CONGRESS SHARING POWERS WITH EACH OF THE FOLLOWING: EXECUTIVE, JUDICIARY, AND BUREAUCRACY.
The implications of congress sharing powers with each of the 3 branches are because that not one branch overpowers the other. Each branch in some way can contradict the other. This is called the checks and balances, so that one power does not overrule the other and turn society to be ruled by an oligarchy of people.
5. DISCUSS THE FUNCTIONS THAT CONGRESS PERFORMS.
Consenting to treaties as a "precondition" to their ratification. To confirm the appointments of cabinet members, federal judges, and other federal executive officials, and military officials. Conducts impeachment trials of federal officials. Initiate revenue bills. Impeach officials. The choice of electing the president when their is a tie from the electoral college.
7. IDENTIFY HOW THE POWER OF THE CONGRESS HAS/MAY CHANGES DRAMATICALLY AS A RESULT OF CRISIS.
The power of Congress may change dramatically because of the result illustrated by the National Emergencies Act which was enacted in 1976 to stop open-ended states of national emergency and to formalize the power of Congress and perform its job of conducting checks and balances on the executive branch as a result of this crisis.

A political party is made up of individuals who organize to win elections, operate government, and influence public policy. The Democratic and Republican parties are currently the primary parties in Congress. The Republicans take more of a conservative type of perspective towards governmental issues and ideals, while democrats are more liberal and open to new ideas, voting and passing bills that tend towards the more open part of society today.
9. IDENTIFY AND DISCUSS THE TIES BETWEEN THE CONGRESS AND INTEREST GROUPS.
Interests groups are groups of people that basically advocate or are "interested" in laws or bills that pertain to certain interests that affect their interests groups. Such groups and ideals behind them also reflect the type of political party that reflect or tend towards. Members of Congress support interest groups to improve their public opinion.
10. IDENTIFY AND DISCUSS THE TIES BETWEEN THE CONGRESS AND MEDIA.
Congress will sometimes leak or "supply" information to the media (CNN, MSNBC & etc) to calculate how the public will react to a certain piece of legislation. This acts as an almost test run for a bill without it actually being a real thing yet so they can cancel the bill before the waste their time on it. The media is also used to publicize national issues as a way to understand how they can work on the issue to fix it through the use of judgement of the people of America :)
